I've had this case for over 4 years now im running my pi 4 8gb as my homelab server only negatives for me is first the fan is to noisy so i use an external 40mm 5v fan on 3.3volts keeps the temps down a lot. Then the other big negative is that the firmware argone40 has on the asmedia chip doesnt support trim so the performance on my ssd is like an sd card

4 years later, this concise tutorial is still very useful. Believe it or not, I have just bought the case in a shop that still had some in stock and thanks to this tutorial, I’ve been able to set it up in no time. Thanks, Chris!
@Luizot1000 Says:
Please. where can I find a tutorial to install PiOS and boot from SSD?
@perditaolio4163 Says:
Nice video. I will buy myself this case. But I wonder if the left USB3.0 is still accessable. Or will a USB-stick touch the USB3->USB3 adapter?
@XxLuvverofMusicxX Says:
This case lets itself down dur to no easy access to the SD card once assempled. Having the boot order set to SD card first is useful for bypassing the OS on the NVME, and not being able to do this with this case is a let down and missed oppertunity to actually be one of the most perfect cases for the Pi 5.

Do you know if there is something similar for the Raspberry 5, thank you

Hi Chris. Hoping to have both m.2 as boot drive and external drive attached by USB for NAS. If you read the highlighted 1-star review of this case on amazon USA, an electrical engineer guy claims that setup will be under powered if you try to use both the M.2 and an external drive in the remaining USB port. Do you have any thoughts on this? I will paste the review into a reply to this comment.

Understood it most it as all your videos are always clear, but I got a bit confused on setting it up to run on M.2 ssd configuration part to run directly of SSD without SD card? I finally ordered my first Rasberry Pi mainly for tinkering around with all sort of projects due to chip shortage, but have no hands on experience with its settings or OS, ill be also getting ahold of 512GB M.2 2280 for media server side of it.
@MorrWorm8 Says:
When I select 2 it asks for fan percentage for minimum temperature. I didn’t get the same options you did. :(..
@methanyl-621 Says:
I wish I had a Raspberyy pi 4 instead of Raspberry Pi 3b now,.
@DrFunFong Says:
Would a SATA with DRAM cache speed up the system, or does USB 3.0 limit speed?
@rivertees Says:
Just what I needed at this time, thanks
@laser-sj Says:
This boots in about the same time as a Pi3B+ on an SD card.... thought it would be quicker !
@joshuahaney1135 Says:
So it would be better to use an SSD than a microSD card?

@avivlab Says:
Can you use thermal paste instead of those pads (for CPU & RAM)? Can you put heatsinks on the Ethernet and USB controllers?

you have a british accent. you must know it all..
@hectorisaiaslinaresramirez8891 Says:
which power supply do you use the one that comes by default with the raspberry pi 4 does not raise the ssd for me
@filipinoy7937 Says:
I have the fan always on, but man the pi runs hot.
@DannyNilsson Says:
For the M.2 Is it still possible to use IMG prebuild images you setup with etcher? or will it require modifications afterward to know its not SD it needs to boot from?
@tophattommy2 Says:
I created the temp script created a Scripts folder (/home/pi/Scripts) and put the temp_test.sh file in there. Every way that I try to run it I get Permission denied. I'm learning and couldn't get the sudo command to even run it.
@jump912 Says:
Would you also cover the UASP feature of the m.2 casing and how to test the write speed? Especially with the same setup (WD GREEN ssd)
@emadalzahid4626 Says:
Great job, Chris 👍
@juansuarez3384 Says:
Help, I have m.2 case, My fan keeps running even under temp settings. I updated Ubuntu, installed curl and fan script, set default fan settings and reboot. Also uninstalled script, reboot, repeated steps, same issue. Idk what I'm missing. Any suggestions? Using putty terminal. Thanks.

Hi Christopher, I am very new to Raspberry Pi world. I watched many of your videos and learned a lot. In my home setup I have a TrueNas system (i5 4th GEN 16GB 12 TB). I bought this case to use my (first) Raspberry pi to setup as VPN. The idea is to have my clients (only 3) to access the NAS to download files from my NAS. Is there any benefit of putting a 1tb m.2 SSD in this case? can I use the SSD as a sub storage too? kindly advice! appreciate all your help and time!!

Does anyone ever even use the GPIO? I don't
@Inertia888 Says:
How does the Argon One Temperature Active Cooling work? How does it sense the temp of the CPU? I could not find a temp sensor. Is it with resistors?
@goldnoob6191 Says:
Does ot support usap? lsusb -t ¦ grep 'Driver=' should be uas.

@MauroSanna Says:
Nice video! Does this case require a different power supply other than the original Raspberry Pi 4 one? Or is that psu enough? Thank you
@woolfy02 Says:
I'm not sure if it's well known but you can hook up a USB A to USB A to the m.2 bottom port (The one connected to the m.2 bottom case) If you need to flash the SSD. A lot easier than having to deal with the SD card as well as pulling the case apart. Mine runs so much better with the SSD!
@chrispappas3750 Says:
Does the Argon One support nvme drives?
@RiftFactorAI Says:
This no longer cost more thatn a 2GB model the chip shortage and scalpers took care of that a 2GB is almost 100 USD
@chocolatecolombo Says:
just tried to install the LineageOS from Konstakang on a new sdcard to try different OS from the raspbian, is there a way I can have the fans running.
@mikehall7806 Says:
I clicked on this link to see you ultimate setup and sadly it said it was no longer there. Great video again. I want to get a PI sooo bad but I'm taking my time to make sure I get what I want (400 vs PI4). I don't want to jump into to it and get the wrong this or have something new come out shortly there after. The video in which I built my Ultimate Raspberry Pi 4 Rig is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIYZw...
@none941 Says:
The only tool I have found that will write an OS successfully to the M.2 is the Pi Imager, and then, only using a listed OS. Attempts to write an OS not included in the library of the imager always ended in a failure to boot. Etcher proved useless, where it always wrote micro sdhc cards and USB keys correctly. This product is great now that it is working, however using it is not as straightforward as you claimed. There are clearly issues that need addressing in future releases of the Argonone M.2.

Probably the best case for raspberry pi 4.
@shanearmstrong7476 Says:
So did you put on the original Pi Heat sinks?
@weskirkland5850 Says:
12:00 That command was giving me fits on my US keyboard. Apparently my pi (retropie) is using a UK keyboard setting so I had no way to make the symbol before bash at the end of the command. Figured it out on my US keyboard you have to hit RIGHT ALT and the ` key over the tab button to get the proper symbol.
@DW-dm5ur Says:
Hi great video thanks. Can I add two external ssd for storage on this via usb? Samsung T5 specifically for media storage? Thanks
@GuitarreroDaniel Says:
Just got mine and assembled along you. Thank you very much, this is such a good looking case!

New Neo case looks pretty cool
@squiddymute Says:
i'm trying to to use the pi (4) psu powering x2 3watt speakers and an ssd directly from the pi via usb and i'm having boot issues :/ , kinda baffled this works with all those devices attached .. although i'm not sure about m2 power consumption compared to the ssd.
@jacek0x-b7u Says:
Warning: I recently purchased the Argon One M.2 Raspberry Pi 4 case through the official website, it took over a month and a half to arrive via mail from China and upon arrival I had to pay a customs fee. To make matters worse, the female end of the SSD screw completely fell off when trying to mount the SSD and now the drive must hang in the air.

Amazing case and another super video... however no option to enclose a PoE hat, or is there a way to do it!??
