I have seen a thing where that apl was ported to a regular phone, no reason to be its own device other than to make it overpriced.

I would get that mole checked out on your palm. Not to freak you out, and it could be completely benign, but better safe than sorry.

If this is pinging off a tower or a wifi network, it likely passively has location data, without specifically tracking location

google gemini did this to me once. it was way creepier though, i was trying to see if it could solve a sypher puzzle and it randomly said "i dont know but it may be realted to (my home city)" which has a very unique name. of course Gemini denied relating that response to my location
@FaenorFiremind Says:
That isnt the AI itself just the rules imposed on it by corporate fuckery.

If you watch this with AirPods the spatial audio was so good for some reason I thought that the sound was coming from my phone when the r1 was talking and it perfectly sounded like marques was in my head when he talked. Supreme depth control.

@BestMLMomments Says:
Everybody knows you are an Apple geek
@TwentyNineJP Says:
How it actually works is probably something like this: when you ask for the weather, the system reroutes that to another process that does know your location and reports it back to the chat bot for it then to report to you. But the bot doesn't "know" about how it got the information, or even that there is a different system that it's getting information from. It's just a language model, and the weather and location information are being fed into it as prompts in the background.
@commandantcarpenter Says:
I've heard of data manipulation by a Turing complete machine but this is ridiculous
@wyrdplae8586 Says:
Surely if it does know your location is isn't programmed to be intentionally guileful. You could just ask for "coffee shops nearby" and it either knows or doesn't. Unless you think it's actually being deceptive which I doubt as you probably would be making much more of a fuss if you thought that.
