They’re like barely cheaper than the expensive models. If I’m spending 50k on a car, I’ll probably just spend another 5-10k to get a Tesla or better brand.

I know this video is 3 years old but I just rented an Ioniq on a trip and have to say I loved the experience in every way including fast charging. And I feel like the design might be slightly inspired bu the back to the future Delorean or an 80s hatchback with louvers.

You analyzed the Ionic5 excellent. I got a new 2024 Ionic5 in April 25, my first EV and love it. So far I don’t think I would ever buy another ICE vehicle. We decided to stay in Canada this year for spring break and drove to Ottawa, my girlfriend wanted to se the annual Tulip Festival. The experience was positive once you learn the charging routine. I believe the Ionic 5 is the best EV on the road at this time.

Before 3/20/2025, I loved the car and fully recommended it.
After that date, however, my experience changed dramatically. The ICCU failed while I was driving with my son in the car. We were left stranded, unable to do anything, not even turn on the hazard lights, apply the parking brake, put the car in park, or take my foot off the brake without the car rolling.
This happened on a small bridge with no shoulder during rush hour, surrounded by frustrated drivers honking and yelling at us, as if we had chosen to stop there and sightsee.
The truth is, their so-called fix is just replacing the ICCU with the same dangerously flawed unit. No one should have to play Russian roulette with their car, especially when lives are on the line.
Until a permanent and proven fix is implemented, I firmly believe these cars are dangerously unreliable and should not be allowed on public roads.
**Also, Due to the number of vehicles having this issue, the ICCU and fuse are all on backorder. With a few months wait time. So you know nothing better than buying a brand new car to have it sit at the dealer unusable.

There's an article in the Globe & Mail that showed a real-life use case of the IONIQ5 after a power outage in Canada, in which the owner of the EV plugged his refrigerator to it, before doing the same for his neighbour(s).

In Colorado there are federal and state gov rebates that dealerships can pass on to the consumer in a lease - I just got a ioniq 5 sel for $4,500 for a 2 year lease - just one payment and we get free charging and the car for 2 years. It’s a really good deal, and I love the car

The #1 issue with EVs right now is not the price of the car. However, there is a lack of charging around the US. WE need FASTER charging, WE need more chargers, and WE need to make chargers similar to gas stations where anyone can start one.
